Creating Kata

Iain and Mary Abernethy invite you to a unique seminar which will guide attendees through the process of CREATING kata! Whilst the traditional kata have much to teach us, there are aspects they do not cover. It is for this reason that Iain has created modern kata for solo pad-drills, the methods of Choki Motobu and ground fighting. Likewise, Mary has created a kata specifically to address female self-defense methods.

This seminar is not about learning these kata (although they will be referenced and shown), but giving those in attendance the skills and understanding needed to create functional kata of their own!

Such kata can be used for solo training specific skills, your own personal self-defense kata, to help you improve weak areas, and so on. Above all, understanding the kata creation process will give insights that will drastically increase your appreciation of the traditional kata. This one-of-a-kind seminar is not to be missed!

Testimonials
I am relatively new to the BCA/BCKA, I left my previous Association 3 years ago to pursue a more practical approach to my training and teaching. It was Iain Abernathy who recommended I give Peter Consterdine a call. In our first phone call, Peter came across helpful, open-minded and supportive to my needs. He explained what the BCA/BCKA could provide and how it’s run. I received an information pack in the post and it ticked all the boxes. It is a very professionally run association. The admin is run extremely efficiently by Dawn and Peter provides constant support and advice to all his members. The wealth and depth of knowledge in the Instructors of the BCA/BCKA is second to none. I am extremely happy I found such a humble and supportive Association.
